As a member of the Green Culture Singapore (GCS) Forum, I just received news on upcoming gardening events this month.
Gardening is perfectly complementary with composting – because of all the plant fertiliser you will be producing! 🙂
Do feel free to check out the events below – most of them are free! For myself, I am especially interested in the second, third, and fourth event.
This will also be a good chance for me to check out HortPark, Singapore’s one-stop gardening hub that brings together gardening-related, recreational, educational, research and retail activities under one big canopy in a park setting.

1. Garden Gifts For Mummy Dearest

2. Have Fun Propagating Plants!

Plant propagation is a means for gardeners to increase their plant quantity. Besides the common method of seed propogation, new plants can also be propagated via various plant parts like stems, leafs and division of crowns. Come and listen to this talk conducted by Ms Pearl Ho from HortPark who will share with you some simple and creative tips on how you can successfully propagate your plant numbers using interesting ideas. This talk will serve as a good opportunity for kids to learn more about the anatomy of plants and how to start their first plant or perhaps even their first garden too!
3. Plant Conservation Day Gardening Bazaar – Gardening Programmes @ HortPark

Celebrate Plant Conservation Day (18 May 2010) in advance with HortPark! Join in this gardening bazaar, where you will find an array of plants, including native species, on sale by hobbyists and industry partners. There will also be a variety of gardening and green lifestyle products available.
4. Reintroduction & Growing of Singapore Native Orchids
Date: 15 May 2010 (Sat)

Speakers: Dr Yam Tim Wing (Singapore Botanic Gardens) & Lim Xuan Hong (Green Culture Singapore)

Approximately 226 species of native orchids have been recorded in Singapore over the years. Of these, 178 are considered to be extinct, and only 5 are common. Join Dr Yam Tim Wing from the Singapore Botanic Gardens as he introduces some of Singapore’s native orchid species. If you are keen to grow some of these orchids, there will also be a sharing session by Lim Xuan Hong, an avid orchid enthusiast, who will touch on orchid cultivation in a high-rise environment. At the same time, learn more about NParks’ orchid conservation programme which involves the monitoring of the status of existing species, conservation of their germplasm, multiplication and subsequent introduction of orchids into our local landscape.
5. Pest & Disease Identification & Management for Home Gardeners
